Turning the Tide

The Sherborne

20 July – 13 October

Gardiner’s Turning the Tide, the first solo show at The Sherborne, a new landmark gallery and arts space in Dorset, takes you on a journey to explore paintings and prints of the modern-day reality of our coastline, looking at the harbours, bays, coves and castles that characterise the remarkable shoreline of the South Coast from North Devon to Kent.

During the last three thousand million years, Britain has been flooded by tropical seas, landlocked in hot dry desert, and frozen beneath thick ice as it has drifted North from near the South pole. It is no surprise that the south coast has an intrinsic beauty which derives directly from this upheaval, in fact a huge variety of different landforms, beaches, arches, cliffs and caves, providing a rich visual and scientific resource for artists like Gardiner.
