Concrete Abstraction

Gardiner’s first solo show at the Shanxi Museum of Contemporary Art, his first solo show in China, has been curated by Chunchen Wang of the renowned Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA) in Beijing. The sixty paintings on display are layered in complex ways to evoke monumental geological processes. The subjects combine timelines from the Jurassic to the Anthropocene era and merge locations with geometric abstraction and figuration into dynamic compositions.

In 2021 Gardiner’s work was selected for the Chengdu Biennale ‘Superfusion’ November 2021 – April 2022. The biennale showcased the vitality of art creation today, promoting international cultural exchange and cooperation. In 2022 a ‘UK-China Connections Through Culture’ grant enabled Gardiner to begin building bridges with artists and curators in China.
