Jeremy Gardiner’s new series of paintings explores the extraordinary landscapes of the Lake District, shaped by three years of observing its mountains, lakes and waterfalls.  Rich in texture, layered colour and expressive mark-making, these paintings are deeply personal responses to the landscape — capturing shifting light, atmosphere, weather, time of day and the changing seasons.

Gardiner’s fascination with the region extends beyond its visual beauty. His detailed research and analytical approach reveal a deeper understanding of its geology, history and sense of place. As he explains: “My use of colour is a combination of my knowledge of geology and my own emotional response to the landscape, the environment and my studio practice, where serendipity plays a part.”

While avoiding pure abstraction, Gardiner’s paintings remain recognisable, inviting us to look beyond the familiar and experience the landscape in a new way. From panoramic views of Windermere and Ullswater to dramatic mountains, waterfalls and the landscapes that surround them, each work is an evocative meditation on place, memory and atmosphere.
